Leading inertial confinement fusion company commercializing the groundbreaking fusion gain achieved at Lawrence Livermore’s NIF - with the team that did it.
Focused Energy is developing laser-driven inertial fusion energy (IFE) to generate clean, sustainable power by compressing and igniting fuel capsules using high-powered lasers. Spun out from TU Darmstadt, the company builds on scientific advances like LLNL's 2022 ignition success and uses its proprietary Pearl™ capsules for high-yield energy output. With $175 million in funding, including support from the U.S. DOE and Germany’s SPRIN-D, Focused Energy is building a laser R&D facility in California and plans to launch a fusion pilot plant in Germany by 2035.
